General Description

SafeSpot is a full-accredited Children’s Advocacy Center serving Fairfax County, Virginia. The mission of SafeSpot Children’s Advocacy Center is to provide a safe environment and support services for child abuse victims and their families as they navigate the investigation and aftermath of abuse.

The Therapist will utilize evidence-based treatment approaches to help children and their caregivers impacted by trauma and work within the multi-disciplinary team to improve the community’s response to child abuse and promote healing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete psycho-social assessments, to include the use of standardized assessment measures, with child victims of trauma to identify trauma-related symptoms and determine appropriate interventions;
  • Conduct therapeutic sessions with children and adolescents, utilizing the evidence-based treatment modality, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT);
  • Track and monitor client progress through continued reassessment;
  • Engage non-offending family members in child’s treatment as appropriate; provide support, parent education and therapeutic referrals;
  • Perform case management duties as needed;
  • Assess and deescalate crisis situations with clients;
  • Refer clients with non-trauma related mental health concerns to appropriate community providers as needed to ensure access to indicated treatment;
  • Maintain orderly, accurate, HIPAA-compliant case files, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and termination summaries;
  • Effectively compile and prepare statistical reports, case records, data, and input information into data tracking software;
  • Provide expert testimony in court as needed;
  • Share appropriate information with Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) partners; consult with MDT partners as requested or deemed necessary;
  • Maintain current licensure and/or certifications;
  • Attend all required staff meetings, case reviews, trainings and conferences;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Clinical Director

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work or a related field;
  • Currently licensed (LPC, LCSW, or LMFT) or actively pursuing licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
  • Minimum 1-year experience providing professional counseling to children and families; previous experience in TF-CBT and working with child victims of crime preferred;
  • English and Spanish fluency preferred;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Work effectively under stressful conditions, while demonstrating discretion and good judgment in handling confidential matters and sensitive information;
  • Possess tact, good judgment, and flexibility;
  • Ability to work as a team member with individuals from a variety of disciplines;
  • Ability to respond quickly to challenges;
  • Clear criminal and civil background checks

Additional Information

  • Schedule is based on the needs of clients; flexibility is required;
  • Some evenings and weekends required;
  • Attendance at major fundraising events mandatory;
  • Pre-employment fingerprint-supported background investigation required;
  • Pre-employment drug testing may be requested

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time position. Current benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement, annual leave, paid holidays, and family leave. CEU opportunities are provided by the employer. Licensure supervision is available for supervisee in social work. Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience; range is $56,750 – $64,126/year.
